In a shocking turn of events, former students of Model Secondary School in Jalingo, Taraba state capital, allegedly stabbed their teacher, Bassey Sardauna, to death.

The fatal incident unfolded outside the school premises as the teacher was on his way home in a tricycle.

The dispute originated from an inter-house inspection that was disrupted by an ex-student attempting to sign a Nigeria Air Force form.

According to Tsokwa Sani, the vice principal academics, tensions escalated when the former student refused to withdraw and apologize after causing a disturbance during the inspection.

Sani explained, “The former student declined, saying he cannot withdraw and cannot apologize. In the process, the teacher flogged the former student, asking that they should leave the school premises, which led to an upheaval.”

Despite efforts to ensure the teacher’s safety by suggesting he be taken out in a colleague’s vehicle, he insisted on facing the former students, claiming they couldn’t “stand him in a battle.”

Tragically, as the teacher boarded a tricycle with three colleagues, the former students, accompanied by local troublemakers, launched a brutal attack, stabbing him in the leg.

The injured teacher was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Jalingo, where, despite medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries and lost his life. His body has been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre.

Confirming the incident, Abdullahi Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, assured that a discreet investigation is underway as directed by the Commissioner of Police.

The culprits, once identified, will be apprehended and charged according to the law, as the community grapples with the shocking loss of an educator in such a tragic manner.
