The Promoting Education for Indigent Children Foundation (PEFIC) on Tuesday donated textbooks and other learning materials to 36 pupils from 12 public primary schools in Abeokuta, Ogun State, ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session.
The event, held at Imo Methodist Primary School, Oke-Yeke, Isabo, marked the foundation’s first major outreach since its official registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission in August and certification by the EFCC’s Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering in September.
Speaking at the ceremony, Alhaji Lateef Oridota, convener of PEFIC, said the initiative was driven by the desire to give back to the less privileged.
“When you reflect on your journey and see God’s grace in your life, you naturally desire to give back.
“Today, we provide these pupils with textbooks, big notes, and other essential materials to ensure they are prepared for the new academic session,” he said.
Each of the selected pupils, drawn from Primary 2 to Primary 5, received English, Mathematics, Yoruba, Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning textbooks, a Modern Writing Workbook, and four big notes.
Representatives of the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, and the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Evangelist Joshua Ifede, commended PEFIC for complementing government efforts in tackling educational challenges, including inadequate learning materials and dilapidated school infrastructure.
“Supporting education goes beyond government provision. Individuals and organisations like PEFIC relieve some of the burdens and ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn,” said Mr. Yusuf, representing the Commissioner.
Oridota added that the foundation plans to expand the programme to reach 1,000 pupils next year.
He also urged parents to play their part in ensuring children attend school and have necessary learning materials.
The event also featured a public lecture titled “Education for All: How Well Have We Fared?” delivered by Professor Bankole Oludare Ogunleye, Dean of the Faculty of Education, National Open University of Nigeria.
PEFIC, a non-governmental organisation, continues to seek partners and sponsors to broaden its impact on the education of indigent children across the state.
