The leader of the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Friday 21 April 20, 2023 equivalent to Shawwal 1st as the Eid El Fitr day .
The Sultan also declared that Thursday ,April 20,2023 , equivalent to Ramadan 29, 1444 A.H. as end of Ramadan fasting for the year.
Sultan Abubakar, made the declaration in his palace on Thursday, few hours after Saudi Arabia and other countries announced the sighting of the moon .
He said the moon was sighted in parts of Nigeria and has been confirmed by the National Moon Sighting Committee.
According to him, in line with the Islamic Shari’ah, therefore, he directed Muslims all over Nigeria to end their fasting as he wished them a very happy celebration.
He urged prayers for new elected leaders in the country and called on Muslims to continue to do good towards fellow citizens, irrespective of their tribes or religions.
