The Inter-Agency Joint Task Force of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intercepted 35 trailers along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway and in the Bauchi-Maiduguri area.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the move was  aimed at curbing trailer-related accidents and the hazardous practice of conveying passengers in trailers.

According to Assistant Corps Marshal Jonas Agwu, the Public Education Officer of the Corps, this initiative was part of a broader strategy implemented by the FRSC to enhance road safety.

During the operation, which took place from March 23 to 30, a total of 982 passengers were found aboard the intercepted trailers.

Specifically, 19 trailers carrying 810 individuals were apprehended on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, while 16 trailers transporting 172 passengers were intercepted in the Bauchi-Maiduguri general operation area.

Upon the arrests, the Inter-Agency Joint Task Force ensured the safe disembarkation of all passengers from the trailers.

They were duly cautioned about the risks associated with such practices and advised to utilize passenger vehicles designated for human transportation.

This decisive action underscores the FRSC’s commitment to safeguarding lives and reducing the incidence of road accidents.

In response to the alarming trend of trailers conveying passengers, the FRSC has initiated proactive measures, including engaging transport unions and articulated vehicle owners.

Moreover, the Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu, directed sector commanders in states with high incidences of such violations to maintain continuous dialogue with relevant stakeholders.

This collaborative effort aims to educate and caution drivers against flouting traffic regulations.

The FRSC’s concerted efforts to address this issue culminated in the inauguration of a Joint Task Force comprising various law enforcement agencies such as the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, State Traffic Management Agencies, and operatives of the Corps.
