The leadership of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Babatunde Kehinde, has  mediated a dialogue with the Ogun State Muslim Community to address the University’s dress code policies, particularly concerning Muslim students.

The resolution of these issues has come after recent public reactions.

The significant meeting, held on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Ogun State Police Headquarters, gathered esteemed dignitaries, including the representative of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo (Okukenu IV); Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu; Wakilu Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta, Sheikh Iskil Lawal Sugar; representative of the Chief Imam of Egbaland, Sheikh Sa’adallah Bangbola; the Baba Adinni of Egbaland, Navy Captain Rasheed Raji (Rtd); the FUNAAB Muslim Community; the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, UNAAB Branch, and other distinguished Muslim leaders in Ogun State.

A statement issued by the university said the  Registrar, Dr. Bola Adekola, issued a statement highlighting the primary purpose of the meeting, which was to address and amicably resolve the ongoing issues related to the University’s dress code policy.

During the meeting, participants engaged in constructive dialogue, fostering understanding and cooperation.

The outcome of the meeting led to valuable resolutions, placing a strong emphasis on the importance of the peace process.

This, in turn, has restored calm, normalcy, congeniality, and a prevailing sense of enduring peaceful coexistence within the University.

Additionally, the recently concluded Jihad week organized by the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), which started on Saturday, September 9, 2023, and culminated with a Grand Finale on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, saw the Vice-Chancellor’s representation.

This underscored the University’s commitment to inclusivity, unity, and the ongoing peace process.

Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor reassured all stakeholders that the University has now fully restored a harmonious and tranquil environment, reflecting its dedication to fostering a sustainable atmosphere conducive to learning and personal growth.

This remarkable meeting serves as an exemplar of conflict resolution and a beacon of hope for academic institutions nationwide.

The University’s management remains committed to finding lasting solutions to the issue in line with international best practices
