The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), says it is in deep mourning following the tragic murder of one of its students, Miss Christianah Idowu, a 300-level student of Pure and Applied Botany from the College of Biosciences (COLBIOS).
PLATFORM TIMES reports that Miss Idowu was abducted in Lagos and subsequently killed in what the university described as a senseless act of violence that has left the entire community heartbroken.
In a statement released by the institution’s Acting Head of Public Relations, Olasunkanmi Olajide, FUNAAB expressed profound sorrow over the brutal loss and extended heartfelt condolences to Miss Idowu’s family, friends, and fellow students.
The university community has been thrown into grief, with management condemning the act and calling for swift justice.
A delegation led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, alongside the President of the Student Union, Comrade Ibraheem Adeyemi, visited Miss Idowu’s family on September 6, 2024, to express the university’s deep sympathies.
During the visit, they met with her bereaved mother and extended words of comfort and solidarity.
The university management is now urging the Nigeria Police Force to expedite their investigation into the abduction and murder, stressing that justice must not be delayed.
They emphasised that such acts of violence must not go unanswered, calling for the perpetrators to be swiftly brought to justice.
“As we grieve, we pray that God grants her family and loved ones the strength to bear this huge loss,” the statement reads.
The university has also urged the entire FUNAAB community to stay united in the face of this tragedy.
The untimely death of Miss Idowu has sent shockwaves across the university and beyond, with many calling for stricter measures to protect students from such violent acts.
The university has vowed to continue supporting the family and ensuring justice is served for this grievous loss.
