The Federal University Of Agriculture, Abeokuta, has produced 118 first class and 1094 second class Upper graduates for the 2021/2022 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Olusola Kehinde, disclosed this on Thursday,at a press conference held as part of activities marking the institution’s 30th convocation ceremony which begins Friday.
Prof. Kehinde added that 1397 students earned second lower class degree while 188 students were listed under Third Class category of graduates out of 2823 Bachelor degree holders.
The VC added that the institution produced 16 Post Graduate Diploma, 215 Master degree and 113 Ph.Ds academic certificates in various fields .
While breaking it down, he said 266 bagged Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degrees.
He however said that former Education Minister, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, will deliver the convocation lecture on Saturday.
Meanwhile, no fewer than 10 projects were commissioned on Thursday as part of the activities marking the 30th convocation anniversary.
Among the projects commissioned are: 200 Capacity undergraduate hostel, Animal Demonstration Laboratory (abattoir), 300 seater lecture with service centre, three (3) CONLESS Lecture theatres 1 & 2 among others.
Speaking on the hardship in the country and how the management is running the school, he lamented that the school has been poorly funded.
He stressed that the money received in the last 6 months can’t fund the generator diesel for a month, adding that the school has been sustaining in it’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.
He said, “we cut our coat according to our cloth, we can’t do what we are not capable of, we get funds from our IGR, Tetfund,
“Everything is tough and it’s affecting everybody, but, I’ll advise everyone to cut their coat according to their cloth.
“However, we are determined to make facilities available for student’s use.
“We have resources for research, even , people come from Uyo, Lagos to use these facilities, this is what we have been doing, and we are trying to make everything better for the students.”
Prof Kehinde therefore advised the government to build followers and keep them informed, stressing that there are some decisions that are compulsory to be made.
In the same vein, he appreciated the graduands for enduring the pain through the years, citing the COVID-19 era and the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU strikes.
Highlighting his achievements since he assumed office as the institution’s VC, 5 months ago, he revealed that one of them is the commissioning 10 Projects.
The commissioned projects are; 200 capacity undergraduate hostel, annual registration laboratory (Abattoir), 300 seater lecture theatre (equiped with digital tools), 300 seater auditorium 2, 300 seater auditorium, academic office complex (E library), post graduate students hostel, undergraduate students hostel 1, undergraduate students hostel 2, and college phase two project.
The projects were commissioned by Oba Matemilola, and Oba Olugbenle, among other staff members of the institution.
