The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebuland, which is next in line to produce the Awujale of Ijebuland, has dragged a businessman, Otunba Abdulateef Adebayo Owoyemi, before the High Court of Ogun State over alleged impersonation as the Olori Ebi (head) of the ruling house.
In the suit, the recognized Olori Ebi, Otunba Ajidagba Adedokun, accused Owoyemi of falsely parading himself as the head of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House despite having no royal connection to the family.
Ajidagba, who instituted the action on behalf of the royal lineage, maintained that the Fusengbuwa Ruling House has its ancestral root in the Ile-Nla Compound, Agunsebi, Ijebu-Ode, and is made up of eight royal families: Olufadi, Ayora/Tunwase, Shenowo, Okuyandewo, Oshinuga, Adekenu, Adebiyi, and Adeberu.
He argued that Owoyemi, who allegedly hails from Ekiti State, is not of Ijebu origin and therefore lacks both the traditional and legal rights to lay claim to the leadership of the ruling house.
According to the claimant, the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, had at different times affirmed that Owoyemi had no royal link to the Fusengbuwa family.
Ajidagba further disclosed that his own appointment as Olori Ebi was formally ratified on November 23, 2023, with letters of confirmation sent to the Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, as well as the late monarch.
He urged the court to restrain Owoyemi from parading himself as the head of the ruling house, warning that such impersonation could create confusion in the royal succession process for the revered Awujale throne.
As of press time, PLATFORM TIMES could not independently confirm if Owoyemi had filed his defence or responded to the suit.
This crisis erupted as a result of the stool of Awujale that became vacant following the demise of the late Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona.
