Gateway United FC has defeated Beyond Limits FA by one goal to emerge champions of the 2023 Ogun FA Cup.
The final held on Thursday at the Otunba Dipo Dina Int’l Stadium in Ijebu saw Gateway triumph through Omolaoye Abiodun’s lone goal.
The Toyin Ayinla tutored had defeated Imperial FC and Ijebu United by Penalty shootouts in quarter and semi finals.
The first half ended barren till Abiodun provided the Icebreaker in the 57th minute.
The lanky midfielder was well positioned to nod in a loose ball off Samuel Akintola’s low cross.
Beyond Limits FA goalie, Christian Chigozie denied Gateway a second goal in the dying minute of the encounter.
Gateway United is billed for the 2023 NNL season opener on the road against Crown FC on Wednesday 22nd March, 2023 in Ogbomoso.
Speaking briefly after the match, Gateway’s coach, Ayinla said the team will go into their next encounter with the confidence from this triumph.
“It’s easy for some people to play down this triumph because we played against an academy but there are no minnows in football. We played against a younger side full of potentials. We are happy. The win came at the right time, five days before Crown FC clash in the league. We will enjoy this moment and plan ahead”, he said.
