The Isale Gbokoto Traditional Council has announced the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba G.A. Olukunle, the Asale of Gbokoto Isale Ketu, in Ogun State.

The revered monarch, who peacefully joined his ancestors on August 12, 2024, at the age of 77, was described as a peace-loving and progressive leader, whose reign left an indelible mark on the community.

In an official statement released by Aremo Olayode Williams on behalf of the Council of Chiefs, Oba Olukunle was lauded as a bridge builder who worked tirelessly to ensure harmony and development within and beyond his domain.

He said that  his leadership was characterized by a commitment to progress, as well as a deep sense of responsibility towards his people.

“It is with a heavy heart but with appreciation for a purposeful life and reign that we announce the joining of our ancestors by His Royal Majesty, Oba G.A. Olukunle, the Asale of Gbokoto Isale Ketu.

His departure has left a significant void, but his legacy of peace and progress will continue to guide us,” the statement read.

The traditional council also advised residents and visitors to be mindful of their movements around the axis, as traditional rites have commenced in honour of the late monarch.

He said “these rites, which are essential to the cultural heritage of the Gbokoto Isale people, are expected to continue until all necessary rituals have been completed.
