Former Minister of Communications and retired Major General, Tajudeen Olanrewaju, has mourned the death of a Lagos royal and elder statesman, Otunba Adekunle Ojora, describing him as a “veteran journalist and boardroom titan” whose life embodied integrity, cultural pride and service.
Ojora, a prince of the Royal House of Lagos and the Lisa of Ile-Ife, died on Wednesday, sparking tributes from across the political, media and business communities.
In a personally signed statement titled “The Passage of Otunba Adekunle Ojora,” Olanrewaju said Lagos State, particularly the Island communities, had lost a rare and invaluable elder whose contributions spanned journalism, entrepreneurship and nation-building.
“The State and, in particular, the Lagos Islanders, have lost a very important elder — a Prince of the Royal House of Lagos and an elder statesman,” he said.
“Otunba Ojora was a veteran journalist and boardroom titan who made positive contributions to the industrial and entrepreneurial sectors of our economy. He lightened up the social fabric of his time in Lagos and across our nation.”
The former General Officer Commanding, 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, also hailed the late Ojora’s deep cultural consciousness and enduring commitment to Lagos heritage, describing him as a man who wore his identity with pride and dignity.
“He was a man of significant cultural articulation who took pride in his Lagosian origin, as demonstrated in his immense contributions to our arts, our history and the emblems of our sacred identity,” he said.
Olanrewaju further praised Ojora’s character, noting that he stood out in public life for his integrity, courage and independence of mind.
“He was impeccable in mien and integrity, standing tall in princely verities; bold, fearless and distant from putrid time-servers hustling for soiled lucre as they mortgage their ancestry,” he added.
Describing the late royal as “a Lagosian of uncommon purity of soul and instinctive candour,” Olanrewaju said his passing had created a void that would be difficult to fill, particularly among those who cherish honour, truth and principled leadership.
“Otunba Ojora will be sorely missed where honour, truth, sincerity and principled audacity are valued as the defining bond of our common humanity,” he said.
The retired general, himself a prince of Lagos, concluded with prayers for the repose of Ojora’s soul, asking Allah to grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.
Adekunle Ojora was widely regarded as a bridge between tradition and modern enterprise, with decades of influence in journalism, business and cultural advocacy, earning him respect across generations in Lagos and beyond
