A Nigerian man, Victor Benjamin Fajemirokun, who allegedly killed an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mrs. Funmilayo Lasisi, and her daughter, Sewa, has been arrested in Ghana after weeks on the run.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that Fajemirokun, 36, was tracked down by operatives of Ghana’s Eastern South Regional Police Command after fleeing Nigeria to evade arrest.
The Regional Commander, George Ohene-Boadi, who confirmed the development during a press briefing, said officers launched an intelligence-led operation after intercepting a viral video alleging that the suspect abducted and murdered the FRSC officer and her daughter in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
“The suspect was wanted by the Nigerian police, but he ran to Ghana to hide with his friends,” Ohene-Boadi said.
“The Eastern Sahara Regional Police Command, upon receiving information that he was hiding in his friend’s home in Akutia, immediately deployed personnel who arrested him in his hideout.”
He added that Fajemirokun is currently in custody while arrangements are being made to hand him over to the Nigerian authorities.
Funmilayo and her daughter were said to have travelled with the suspect to Osun State on November 2. They never returned.
Investigations by Nigerian security agencies reportedly linked the disappearance to Fajemirokun and a self-acclaimed herbalist who is now on the run.
Police operatives later arrested two other suspects in Osun and Ekiti states following covert operations. Their disclosures reportedly led detectives to the remains of the victims, discovered in a bushy location.
The Ghanaian police have assured full cooperation with their Nigerian counterparts to ensure the case reaches a conclusive end.
“The suspect will be handed over to Nigerian authorities as soon as all procedures are completed. We are committed to supporting this investigation,” the Ghana police authorities said.
The Ogun State Police Command had earlier intensified efforts to track all individuals connected to the murder, describing the killing of the FRSC officer and her young daughter as “inhuman, callous and unacceptable.”
