Gombe State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing a new minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants.
The assurance was given by the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Manassah Jatau, during a meeting of the minimum wage implementation committee on Sunday.
Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Governor, the Head of Civil Service, Ahmed Abdullahi, stated that the state government is dedicated to improving the welfare of its workers.
Abdullahi pointed out the ongoing payment of a N10,000 monthly palliative, which was introduced in September 2023 to cushion the impact of subsidy removal on civil servants.
“The governor is highly committed to paying the N70,000 minimum wage.
“It was due to his concern, feeling, and regard for civil servants that he announced the N10,000 palliative.
“It’s been almost a year since we started paying it, and now, with the agreement reached at the national level, we are prepared to move forward with the new minimum wage,” he stated.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Gombe chapter, represented by its Chairman, Yusuf Aish, confirmed that they were awaiting the release of the National Minimum Wage table by the Federal Government before commencing full negotiations with the state government.
“In our tripartite discussion, we agreed to wait for the National Minimum Wage table to be released.
“Once it’s available, we will start negotiations in Gombe to agree on what will be paid to civil servants in the state,” Aish stated.
