The Special Assistant to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia on Media Mobilisation, Atu Terver, has narrated his harrowing experience after regaining freedom from kidnappers in Abuja.
Terver was abducted on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, and held in captivity for two days before he was released on Friday, September 19.
Speaking on Saturday through a social media post, the governor’s aide said the incident left him with terrifying thoughts about his safety and the fate of his family.
> “It wasn’t a funny experience,” Terver wrote. “The traumatizing thoughts of what will happen to me and what becomes of my family if the worst happens kept running through my mind.”
The aide revealed that after his release, he was taken to St. Christine’s Hospital in Abuja for medical examination, where doctors confirmed he sustained no serious injuries.
“I took the prescribed medication, followed medical advice to rest, and I feel much better now,” he added.
Terver, who expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life, also thanked friends, family, and well-wishers who called, prayed, and campaigned for his safe return.
“God is really wonderful and this has convinced me more that He still comes through for His children,” he said.
He further announced that he would give a detailed account of his ordeal during a live session hosted by activist Ukan Kurugh on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, security agencies are yet to release details about the circumstances of his abduction or confirm whether arrests have been made.
Kidnap-for-ransom cases have continued to surge across Abuja and neighbouring states, raising concerns about worsening insecurity despite government assurances of improved security operations.
