…Commissioners, Aides, Perm Secs Affected; Barred From Duties For One Month

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has wielded the big stick, suspending 87 top government officials for failing to attend an important state function.

Those affected by the disciplinary action include 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries.

The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Monday night in a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.

Uzor said the officials have been placed on a one-month working suspension without salary. They are also barred from signing any official documents during the period.

“The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has directed that the underlisted government functionaries proceed on one-month working suspension without salary for failure to attend an important government function,” the statement read.

Commissioners were directed to hand over to their respective permanent secretaries, while the affected permanent secretaries are expected to vacate their offices pending the end of the suspension.

The governor, according to the statement, is determined to instill discipline and ensure strict adherence to official duties by all public servants.

Mr Uzor stressed that Governor Nwifuru remains committed to fostering a responsible and responsive government and will not tolerate acts of negligence from appointees and civil servants.

The development has sparked mixed reactions across the state, with some describing the move as harsh, while others say it sends a strong signal about accountability and commitment in public office.
