Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced that the newly renovated 250-bed Ogun State Medical Centre of Excellence in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, will be commissioned in December 2025.
The governor disclosed this during an inspection of the hospital, which was built by the previous administration .

Speaking during the inspection,he said the facility would be managed in partnership with the Abuja Medical Centre of Excellence, which counts King’s College Hospital among its international partners.
Describing the hospital as a “spoke” of the Abuja Medical Centre of Excellence, Abiodun said the facility would serve as a primary healthcare hub for residents and visitors from neighbouring states.
“We are looking forward to the completion of this project. The exterior is looking very nice, landscaping has started, the entrance canopy and gate are in place, and the oxygen equipment is functional. I have instructed the team to double manpower so that operations can commence within the next two to three weeks,” he said.
Abiodun added that the hospital would help curb medical tourism by providing top-quality healthcare locally.
“We know how much Nigerians spend on medical tourism. Patients from Ogun often travel to Lagos, Oyo, Osun, and Ekiti states for treatment. This hospital will stop all that. Its strategic location makes it accessible to a large number of patients,” he said.
The governor also highlighted the role of public-private partnership in completing the project. “To ensure the hospital operates efficiently and delivers the quality of care intended, we partnered with Healthshare Services Limited through our public-private partnership office. They have been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition,” he explained.
Project manager Dr. Frank Etang of Healthshare Integrated Solutions said the hospital was on track for commissioning.
“The basement, ground floor, radiology, laboratory, doctors’ and nurses’ consulting rooms are ready. We are completing the first floor, which houses the theatre, ICU, and wards, and we are confident we will meet the December target,” he said.
Once operational, the Ogun State Medical Centre of Excellence is expected to serve as a model healthcare facility in the region, reducing patient traffic to other states and improving access to specialised medical services in Ogun.
