Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a stern warning to members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, cautioning them against opposing his administration.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of political and traditional leaders from Bayelsa State at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara asserted his authority, declaring that the legislators’ existence is contingent upon his recognition.

Governor Fubara expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the state lawmakers, criticizing their stance towards his administration.

He emphasized his pivotal role in recognizing their legitimacy, citing the Peace Accord initiated by President Bola Tinubu as the basis for their existence.

The delegation from Bayelsa State, led by former Governor Henry Siriake Dickson and other prominent figures, sought to mediate the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State and foster improved relations between the two neighboring states.

In his address, Governor Fubara underscored his efforts to maintain peace amidst escalating tensions, highlighting his willingness to engage in dialogue despite facing intimidation and unwarranted attacks.

However, he made it clear that his tolerance had limits, asserting his authority to determine the legitimacy of the state legislators.

The Governor also lamented the misuse of police forces to intimidate his supporters and revealed instances of sabotage from within his own administration.

He called for unity and cooperation among political stakeholders while reaffirming his commitment to peaceful resolution despite the transient nature of power.
