The Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government has targeted 10 million hectares of land for food production to guarantee food security in Nigeria.

Adeniyi disclosed this on Tuesday during a book launch at Customs Headquarters in Abuja.

He stated that Customs is solidly behind the government’s food security plan, emphasising that Tinubu’s administration had taken bold steps to address the immediate challenge of high food prices by removing tariffs and other import duties on key staples such as rice, wheat, maize, and sorghum for six months.

“There’s an ambitious target to cultivate more than 10 million hectares of land for food production. This initiative not only aims to boost our food security but also to leverage our abundant arable land, only 40 per cent of which is currently cultivated,” Adeniyi stated.

DAILY POST recalls that the government announced a 150-day zero import duty waiver for selected staple foods to crash prices.
