The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department to commence immediate investigations into the series of incidences recorded during the November 11 gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday, November 14.

The IGP, however, commended police officers and operatives of other security agencies for providing adequate support to the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring security for the conduct of the governorship elections in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states.

He stated that the commitment and due diligence displayed by the security operatives in policing the electoral process was highly productive and commendable.

Egbetokun said the electoral process in the three states transpired seamlessly, defying earlier threat assessments and projected challenges from various quarters, adding that security operatives maintained law and order, safeguarded the electoral process, and ensured the safety of citizens in the November 11 polls.

The IGP further expressed gratitude to all security agencies involved in the election security management for lending their support to the police for securing the electoral process.

Egbetokun also enjoined on police officers to remain committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
