In a horrifying incident that underscores the growing security challenges in Taraba State, gunmen stormed Pupuple town in Yorro Local Government Area, abducting no fewer than 20 individuals, including a police officer, a pregnant woman, and a local Chief identified as Umaru Nyala.

The assailants, armed and dangerous, descended upon the community around 2 am on Tuesday, firing shots indiscriminately in different directions.

This latest incident has left residents shaken, especially after six people were kidnapped in October, prompting concerns about the escalating wave of abductions in the region.

The community’s cry for help intensified, emphasizing the need for immediate action from both local authorities and the state government.

Confirming the distressing event, Abdullahi Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Taraba State, stated that the police were actively investigating the incident to gather more information before releasing an official statement.

The residents, grappling with fear and insecurity, are now pleading with the state government to deploy additional security forces to the area and provide the necessary logistical support to combat the rising menace of kidnappers, armed bandits, and other criminals plaguing the region.

The recent abduction follows closely on the heels of the kidnapping of a Police Inspector from his farm in Kurmi Local Council a few days prior, raising serious questions about the adequacy of the current security measures in place.

Frustration and anxiety among the residents have reached a tipping point, with many stating that they can no longer sleep with both eyes closed, fearing for their safety.

In response to the crisis, the Taraba State Police Command assured the public that the anti-kidnapping unit, strike force, vigilantes, and local hunters are working tirelessly to secure the safe release of the victims from the clutches of the kidnappers.

Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer, emphasized their commitment to resolving the situation promptly.

As the community awaits updates on the ongoing investigation and rescue efforts, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for a comprehensive and sustainable security strategy to protect the lives and property of the residents in Taraba State.
