There was panic as unidentified gunmen on Sunday attacked travellers on the desolate Takete Ide to Aghara road in Kogi State, injuring and dispossessing them of their valuables

The gun-wielding men suspected to be Fulani marauders were said to have seized the road in the afternoon and operated till evening.

It was learnt that the assailants harassed travellers, detained them and forcefully collected their property while those who resisted were tortured to compliance.

It was gathered that residents of Takete Ide, a peaceful agrarian community in the MopaMuro local government area of the state got wind of the attack at about 6:00 pm.

Local hunters of the community were said to have quickly organised a resistance to dislodge the bandits from their location at the bank of Eba River upon learning of the attack.

The hunters were said to have been ambushed by the bandits, leading to an exchange of gunfire where three of the hunters sustained gunshot injuries, and one was declared missing in the night operation while the attackers were forced to a hasty retreat.
