In a series of brutal attacks in Kauru and Igabi local government areas of Kaduna State, nine lives were lost and 35 individuals, including a retired Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) director, his brother, and sister-in-law, were kidnapped by unidentified gunmen.

The tragedy unfolded in Kwasam community in Kauru LGA on Friday night, around 10 pm, as armed bandits invaded, shooting indiscriminately.

The assailants, after forcibly taking two individuals at gunpoint, proceeded to the residence of the retired CBN staff, abducting him.

The assailants then targeted the family house, kidnapping the director’s brother and his wife.

Attempts by residents to rescue the victims resulted in six immediate fatalities and injuries to two others.

Among the deceased were identified as Danmasanin Gwaska, Mrs. Giwa John, Kapishi Barmu, Ganya Ubangida, Shigama Salisu, and Gani Magawata.

The kidnapped included Mr. Zakariya Markus (retired CBN director), Mr. Monday Markus, Mrs. Monday Markus, Mr. Alhamdu Makeri’s son, and Baban Fati of Kauru.

In a separate attack in Igabi LGA’s Sabon Birni Ward, three people lost their lives, and 30 were kidnapped by the assailants.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has called for intensified military operations against bandits in response to the attacks.

The governor expressed condolences to the affected families and sent a representative, Samuel Aruwan, Overseeing Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, for an on-the-spot assessment.

Speaking in Gwada and Kerawa villages in Igabi LGA, alongside military commanders, the representative assured ongoing military operations in the affected areas.

“We are here on behalf of Governor Uba Sani to condole with you over the lives lost in Sabon Birni Wards in Igabi LGA and also Kwassam, Kurera, and Kan Makama communities in Kauru LGA.

May Almighty God grant the deceased eternal rest and a speedy recovery to the injured,” said Aruwan.

The representative emphasized the governor’s commitment to aggressive military operations in frontline and emerging areas like Kauru LGA.
