The Oyo State council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has described a former Editor of the defunct Sketch newspaper, Mr Olusakin Babalola, as a passionate journalist.

The Oyo State NUJ made this declaration via a statement signed by its Acting Chairman, Seye Ojo, and the union’s Secretary, Sola Oladapo, on behalf of the Chairman, Ademola Babalola who is presently on annual vacation.

DAILY POST reports that Olusakin Babalola, a native of Ipetumodu in Ife North local government area of Osun State, died in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Wednesday. https://dailypost.ng/2024/08/22/former-sketch-news-editor-babalola-dead/

The NUJ in the statement made available to DAILY POST on Thursday, described Babalola as a dedicated and passionate journalist who served the profession with distinction.

The union said that Babalola was a devout Christian, a loving father, and a respected community leader.

“Babalola was a dedicated and passionate journalist who served the profession with distinction. He was also a devout Christian, a loving father, and a respected community leader.

“The NUJ Oyo State Council mourns the loss of this exceptional individual and extends its condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. May his soul rest in peace”.

The family confirmed the death of their patriarch in a statement obtained by DAILY POST on Thursday.

The family in a statement signed by Seye Babalola, noted that details of the burial would be announced later.

“The young shall grow”, my Dad would say, and we boys would reply with “The old shall wax stronger, and stronger”, flexing our tiny biceps. The day came on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, that the old stopped waxing stronger.

“With deep gratitude to God for a life well lived, we announce the peaceful passing of our father, Elder Olusakin Adejumo Babalola, who went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

“He is lovingly remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren, and siblings.
Details of the burial arrangements will be shared shortly,” parts of the statement read.
