Heir Apparent To Awujale Stool, Fusengbuwa Threatens Legal Action Against Factional Leader

In a recent development, Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba, the newly appointed Olori-Ebi of Fusengbuwa ruling house in Ijebu-Ode, has issued a stern warning to Otunba Abdul Lateef Owoyemi, the former family head, threatening to pursue a contempt charge if Owoyemi continues to present himself as the family head.

Addressing journalists  in Ijebu-Ode on Wednesday, Ajidagba, who heads the heir apparent to the Awujale Stool, emphasised that the Ogun State High Court had already settled the matter by dismissing the case filed by Owoyemi.

The case, initiated in 2014, involved a dispute over the rightful Olori-Ebi position within the Fusengbuwa ruling house.

Ajidagba, flanked by other family elders, presented a copy of the court judgment delivered in March 2018, which clarified the eligibility criteria for the Olori-Ebi role, citing the lineage of the late Subomi Balogun and specifying the functions of the position.

Despite the court’s ruling, Ajidagba accused Owoyemi of defying the order and continuing to claim leadership of the Fusengbuwa family.

The family head emphasized the importance of upholding court decisions to avoid anarchy and maintain respect for the reigning Oba.

In response, Owoyemi dismissed the family’s claims, asserting his right to comment and challenging them to prove any misuse of the family name for personal gain.

He questioned the court’s jurisdiction over his status as a member of the ruling house, stating his lineage’s roots traced back over 200 years to Ikoro-Ekiti.

The Fusengbuwa ruling house, through Ajidagba, said it has  disowned Owoyemi, urging him to cease identifying as a member or prince of the family.

The family called for the return of any family documents or correspondence in Owoyemi’s possession to the ruling house secretariat.

When asked to react to the court judgment restraining him from parading himself as the head of the ruling house, he said, “No judgment said I should stop doing anything. They are reading into the judgment what is not in the judgment as they are doing it. I have handed them over to God.

No one can kill me. God has made me what he wanted to make me. I’m not going to take them to any court; God sees me.”

Speaking further, Owoyemi said the ruling house has several units, stating, “I don’t want to get involved in any controversy with anybody. I challenge them to prove if I use the name of the family to get a contract or money from anyone.”
