Residents of Gurbi community in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State have alleged that a helicopter was used to drop armed bandits who launched a brutal attack on their village on Friday, leaving at least 10 people injured and causing widespread destruction.
In a post shared on social media by security analyst Bakatsine on Monday, a resident narrated how the helicopter landed at a part of Gurbi known as Kuka Mai Zuma before the bandits were released.
According to the eyewitness, the attackers immediately opened fire, shooting several villagers within minutes.
“It did not even take up to five minutes after the helicopter dropped them before they started shooting,” the resident said in Hausa. “At least 10 people were shot and had to be rushed to the hospital.”
The bandits reportedly operated for about two hours, moving from house to house, looting properties, and rustling livestock.
The marauders took all kinds of animals, including cows, goats, and rams, and reportedly burnt several vehicles.
“They didn’t leave a single animal behind. They took everything and set at least 10 vehicles on fire,” the resident added.
Many residents remain unaccounted for since the attack, which plunged the community into panic.
As of the time of this report, the Katsina State government and security agencies had not issued an official statement on the incident.
