Hezbollah fires 135 projectiles into Israel as country marks Hamas attack anniversary

Lebanon’s Hezbollah launched 135 projectiles into Israel on Monday, according to the Israeli military, as the nation commemorated the first anniversary of Hamas’s deadly October 7 attack.

Air raid sirens sounded across northern Israel throughout the day as tensions escalated.

The barrage from Hezbollah came as Israel held solemn vigils and rallies, marking the anniversary of last year’s brutal Hamas assault, which left deep scars across the country.

The missile strikes on Monday are part of the ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, which have steadily worsened following a year of cross-border violence sparked by the 2023 conflict between Israel and Hamas.

In a statement, the Israeli military reported that the projectiles had crossed from Lebanon into northern Israeli territory by 17:00 local time (14:00 GMT).

The attacks prompted further retaliatory strikes by Israeli forces on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, as the two sides remained locked in a tense standoff.

As Israel honors the memory of those lost in last year’s Hamas attack, the country is also facing continued threats from its northern borders, with Hezbollah firing rockets in retaliation for Israeli airstrikes that killed its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in September 2024.

The Israeli government has pledged to continue its military operations against Hezbollah and other hostile groups, vowing to defend its citizens as cross-border fighting intensifies.
