In a shocking incident, a well-known philanthropist, Akintunde Mufutau Alli, has become the victim of a violent attack at his home in Oyo State.
The attack, which took place on February 20, 2021, resulted in the tragic loss of his wife, Serifat Iyabode Alli and was allegedly carried out by hoodlums seeking to silence Alli’s vocal campaign against bad governance.
It was gathered that the house was ridden with bullets, while the hoodlums killed Alli’s wife who was at home when the attack took place.
It was also learnt that the security guard in the house was seriously wounded and was hospitalised.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the hoodlums shot indiscriminately at the building and also threatened to fish out Alli wherever he was hiding.
Alli, who resides at No. 5 Ahoyaya Surulere Estate off Kumapayi Road Olodo off Iwo Road, Ibadan, Oyo State has long been a vocal critic of corrupt practices and mismanagement by government officials.
The attack on Alli’s residence has sent shockwaves through the community, as many had looked up to him as a symbol of hope and integrity.
Our correspondent gathered that the motive for the assault remains unclear, but it is widely believed that it was an attempt to intimidate and silence the philanthropist’s anti-corruption efforts.
Alli, who spoke from his hideout, expressed his shock and disbelief at the attack, stating that he would not be cowed by such violence and would continue to stand up against injustice.
He noted that the violence was intended to silence and prevent him from speaking out against corruption.
“I am not only saddened by the loss of my wife but also deeply concerned about my safety. It appears that my efforts to expose corruption and improve the lives of our people have put a target on my back. This violence will not deter me, but I fear that if I do not speak up, others may suffer the same fate.
“People of high places after my life following the role I played in supporting the youth during the EndSars protest here in Ibadan, and the recent imposition of the President’s daughter as Iya loja general, among other critical public issues I have spoken about.
“I refuse to stay silent in the face of injustice, even if it means putting my life in danger. My family and I will continue to fight for what is right, even if it means leaving our home,” he maintained.
Following the violent attack on his residence, Alli, however, revealed that he made the difficult decision to leave the community with his family, seeking safety and security.
With his life under threat, Alli, along with his second wife and children, left their home in Oyo State and embarked on a journey to an undisclosed location.
The philanthropist’s sudden departure has left the community in shock, with many expressing their disappointment and concern over his safety.
Alli, known for his philanthropic efforts, has long been a beacon of hope for the residents of Oyo State. His generosity and compassion have touched the lives of many, with his donations ranging from educational scholarships to healthcare support.
In the past, Alli has donated classrooms, computers and educational materials to schools in the Ibadan area of Oyo State, enabling underprivileged students to access digital resources and expand their learning opportunities.
He has also contributed funds towards medical expenses for those in need and sponsored free health clinics in rural communities.
