In a decisive victory, Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been re-elected as the Governor of Imo State.

The announcement of his re-election came following the governorship election held on Saturday, November 11, 2023.

The state Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Abayomi Fashina, declared Governor Uzodimma as the winner in the early hours of Sunday morning after a rigorous process of over eight hours, collating results from local government areas across the state.

In his declaration, Prof. Fashina stated, “That you Hope Uzodimma of APC, having satisfied the law, is hereby returned elected.”

Governor Uzodimma, who previously assumed office in January 2020 after a Supreme Court ruling, secured a second term by sweeping all 27 local government areas in Imo State.

His resounding victory saw him defeating his closest rivals, including Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nneji Achonu of the Labour Party (LP), and Jack Ogunewe of the Action Alliance (AA), along with 14 other opponents, by a significant margin.

The final tally of votes saw Governor Uzodimma securing 540,308 votes, with a notable lead over Anyanwu, who garnered 71,503 votes, and Achonu, who accumulated 64,081 votes.

According to the data released by INEC, the total number of registered voters for the election in Imo State was 2,419,922, with 2,318,919 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs issued and utilized during the electoral process.

Hope Uzodimma’s re-election signifies a continued mandate from the people of Imo State, securing his position as Governor for a second term.
