    Hotel Owner Kills Employee With Generator Fumes Over Phone Theft

    The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old guest house owner, identified as Ibe Obasi, for allegedly  torturing  and confining his  25-year-old employee, Ebuka Udembai nside a generator room till he died over phone theft  .

    According to a statement by Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the command, the preliminary investigation revealed that the  suspect and two others who are currently at large committed  the crime . 

    PLATFORM TIMES gathered that  Udemba suffocated to death in the confined space, following accusations of theft involving a customer’s handset.

    The suspect  was apprehended by operatives from the Obowo Divisional Headquarters.

    The  police spokesperosn  said the suspect  has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Owerri, as part of the ongoing investigation.

     Okoye emphasized that Obasi’s cooperation has been instrumental in progressing the case, with efforts underway to locate and detain all other suspects implicated in the incident.

    The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has directed a thorough investigation to ascertain the full circumstances leading to Udemba’s death.

     Danjuma has urged the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID to ensure that all individuals involved in the alleged murder face the consequences of their actions.

    PLATFORM TIMES gathered further that  th  deceased was accused of stealing a cell phone belonging to a military officer who was staying at “Our Guest House,” where he was employed. 

    Despite his denials, Udemba was subjected to physical violence and ultimately locked in a room containing the hotel’s diesel generator, leading to his untimely death.

    It was further revealed that the hotel owner, Ibe Obasi, and the military officer purportedly disposed of Udemba’s body in a nearby cassava farm after discovering his lifeless form in the generator room.

    The Commissioner of Police has called for restraint among residents and urged them to allow the legal process to take its course, assuring them of the command’s dedication to resolving the case swiftly and justly.
