As they recounted their extraordinary journey, the survivors revealed to Daily Mail the heart-wrenching details of their 3,500-mile (5,600-kilometer) voyage from Lagos, Nigeria, to Vitória, Brazil.
Escaping the clutches of hardship, the four stowaways clung to their dreams of a better future, perching themselves above the ship’s rudder with hopes of reaching the shores of Europe.
As the days turned into nights, their supplies dwindled, leaving them teetering on the brink of desperation.
With remarkable ingenuity and an unyielding will to survive, they turned to the unthinkable – drinking their own urine and seawater to sustain themselves.

Thankgod Yeye, a 38-year-old stowaway, shared his haunting experience, saying, “It was a terrible ordeal. On board, every moment was a battle. I was trembling, consumed by fear, but I am here now.”
Roman Friday, another survivor at 35, recounted how they ingeniously crafted a net around the rudder to prevent themselves from being swept away by the unforgiving sea.
He spoke of breathtaking encounters with marine giants such as whales and sharks that shared their temporary home.
Their tale of endurance took a dramatic turn when Brazilian federal police finally swooped in to rescue them at the southeastern port of Vitória, two weeks after embarking on their harrowing journey on June 27.
Huddled together in a Sao Paulo church shelter, the survivors recounted the harsh conditions they endured onboard – cramped spaces and the constant hum of the ship’s engine made sleep a precious rarity.
Roman Friday expressed his profound relief upon their rescue, stating, “The moment we were saved, a wave of happiness washed over me. I fervently hope the Brazilian government will show compassion to our plight.”
While two of the rescued stowaways have returned to Nigeria, Yeye and Friday have sought asylum in Brazil, driven by the scourge of economic hardship, political turmoil, and rampant crime in their homeland.
Yeye, a devoted Pentecostal minister hailing from Lagos state, shared the heartbreaking loss of his peanut and palm oil farm to devastating floods, rendering his family destitute.
For Friday, his journey began when a compassionate fisherman friend guided him to the stern of the Liberian-flagged Ken Wave, where he joined forces with three other determined stowaways.
Father Paolo Parise, a priest overseeing the Sao Paulo shelter, marveled at the survivors’ incredible story, remarking,
“The depths of human desperation can drive individuals to undertake extraordinary and perilous feats.”
