A shocking domestic incident reportedly unfolded in Potiskum, Yobe State, when an 18-year-old housewife allegedly cut off her husband’s manhood in the early hours of Thursday, February 6.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the disturbing attack in a statement on Saturday in Damaturu.
He said the crime was reported to the Potiskum Divisional Police Station around 3 p.m., nearly 14 hours after it allegedly occurred at about 1 a.m.
According to SP Abdulkarim, the suspect used a sharp knife to mutilate her husband before fleeing the scene.
“Police operatives promptly visited the location and rushed the victim to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, for urgent medical attention.
He was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare, where he is receiving treatment,” he said.
The police spokesman added that the suspect remains at large as investigations continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack. He withheld certain sensitive details to protect the victim from further trauma.
State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, condemned the act in strong terms, stressing that marriage should be grounded in mutual respect, understanding, patience, and tolerance.
“Marriage must never be an avenue for violence, abuse, or humiliation,” SP Abdulkarim quoted the commissioner.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
