Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has opened up about his religious journey, revealing that he converted from Christianity to Islam in his pursuit of truth and spiritual clarity.
Speaking during an interview with digital personality, Playboymax, the Afrobeats star explained that his continued study of religious texts has left him more confused than enlightened about spirituality.
“Growing up, I was a Christian and then I converted to Islam. It’s like I’ve studied it all, but I’m still out here trying to find out what is really going on, you know? The more I research, the more confused I get,” the singer said.
According to him, despite exploring both faiths deeply, he remains on a personal journey of self-discovery and spiritual awakening.
“I’ve studied it all but I’m still in search of the truth,” he added.
Burna Boy’s remarks have sparked renewed discussion on faith and spiritual identity among his fans and followers, many of whom have closely followed his evolving beliefs and public reflections on life and purpose.
His comments come months after another Nigerian singer, 9ice, disclosed that he embraced Ifa traditional religion, claiming he suffered a “spiritual attack” that left him bedridden for six months. The “Gongo Aso” crooner said he wished he had embraced his ancestral faith earlier.
Burna Boy has, in recent years, become increasingly vocal about deeper themes such as spirituality, African identity and the pursuit of purpose — a subject that continues to shape his music and public conversations.
