A 33-year-old woman, Ifeoma Ossai, who was arrested and detained after allegedly killing her landlord, Monday Oladele, by squeezing and dragging his manhood during a fight, has denied the accusation.
Ossai, a mother of two, was accused of assaulting Oladele and his wife during a disagreement at their residence in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.
However, Ossai has come forward to refute the allegations against her, stating that she did not touch or drag her landlord’s manhood.
In an interview with PLATFORM TIMES, she claimed that Oladele’s relatives cooked up the story to implicate her.
Ossai explained that the fight with her landlord was sparked by a disagreement over her decision to not pay her rent for some months due to a lack of access to basic amenities.
She claimed that Oladele had promised her access to borehole water before she moved in, but failed to fulfill his promise.
Ossai also alleged that she was cheated on prepaid electricity charges and that some of the money was being used to pay off the household’s accumulated debts.
“We indeed fought with my landlord and his wife, but I didn’t touch, nor drag his manhood. When we fought, his younger brother who separated us, told his brother that he was not supposed to fight because he was hypertensive.
“He also expressed disappointment in his wife, saying she was supposed to caution her husband since she knew his health condition. With that, we separated, but the wife would not stop insulting me. Then I went back to her and beat her up because she wounded me earlier and my face was bloody,” She said
She added, “While we were at it, I heard the landlord making a call on his phone for some people to start coming to the house. 30 minutes after our quarrel, I heard people screaming, so I rushed out and saw that my landlord had collapsed and he was in a position of making calls.
“I guessed he collapsed while making the call earlier, but nobody knew because he was alone in the room. So, I didn’t kill my landlord. He died of high blood pressure. His relatives cooked up that story.”
Ossai explained that the disagreement arose from a confrontation with her landlord when he promised she would live in the house for months without paying, to get back at her landlord for not fulfilling the agreement they had when she newly rented the apartment.
“We pay N12,000 per week for prepaid electricity and somehow it turns into 4 days, and we have twelve rooms in the compound. So, I queried why we use electricity at that rate for just a few days.
“When I confronted my landlord, he confessed that some of the money was used to pay their debt. It didn’t sit well with me, but I had no choice, but I made up my mind that I wouldn’t pay for any utility unit until water started running in my house.”
Ossai, who is currently in police custody, pleaded with the government to have mercy on her, saying that she regrets her actions.
She said, “I regret everything that happened. I never wished the man dead, and I did not kill him. I pray the government temper justice with mercy.
“My two children are with my elder sister who is struggling to feed her mouth. Adding two children would add to her issues, and their father is not responsible. Please have mercy on me. I am the breed winner of my family.”
