Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has disclosed that he officially joined the Accord Party a month ago, describing the move as a strategic step to consolidate his welfare-driven governance and seek re-election in 2026.
The governor’s position was made public through a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Tuesday, following a formal announcement at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo.
The event also marked his declaration to contest for a second term on the platform of the Accord Party.
Adeleke explained that his decision followed weeks of consultation with stakeholders, community leaders, and political opinion shapers in the state.
“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after thorough consultations and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders,” he stated.
The governor said the move was motivated by the need to sustain the reforms and service delivery achievements of his administration, which have been recognized both locally and internationally.
“We intend to pursue a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party to complete the ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends which have been applauded at home and abroad,” Adeleke added.
Explaining why he chose Accord, the governor noted that the party’s ideology aligns closely with his administration’s priorities, particularly its focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on the well-being of citizens,” he said.
Adeleke further described the Accord Party as a natural home for his people-centered agenda, commending its philosophy.
“Since I joined the party more than a month ago, I have been fascinated by the philosophy of this great party.
“The focus on people’s welfare should always be at the heart of public leadership. The primary essence of a government is the welfare and well-being of the people,” he said.
In concluding his declaration, Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to the Accord Party in accordance with the will of the people of Osun State.
“In accordance with the wishes of our stakeholders and to accord deep respect for the desires of Osun people, I hereby declare for the Accord Party,” he said.
The event was attended by national and state leaders of the Accord Party, highlighting the party’s support for the governor’s re-election bid.
