A former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has debunked rumours claiming he has defected from the All Progressives Congress to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
In a statement shared on his verified X account, formerly known as Twitter, El-Rufai described the reports as baseless and urged Nigerians to dismiss them.
He termed the allegations as “patent lies” aimed at misleading the public.
“Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers,” El-Rufai posted on Sunday.
The former governor revealed that he has instructed his legal team to take action against those disseminating the misinformation.
A close associate of El-Rufai also dismissed the claims, labeling them as fabrications by mischief makers.
The aide emphasized that the former governor, a well-known figure within the APC, would not switch political allegiance without making an official announcement.
El-Rufai, who has remained a key player in the ruling APC, has faced increased public scrutiny in recent months.
However, his recent statement reaffirms his commitment to the party amid speculation about his political future.
