Former President Muhammadu Buhari has said he left office with the same physical assets he possessed before becoming Nigeria’s president in 2015.

Buhari disclosed this during a meeting with governors under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, who visited him at his residence in Daura, Katsina State, according to a statement issued by his media aide, Garba Shehu.

“I left office with the same physical assets I had before becoming president,” Buhari told the governors, while urging them to prioritise the needs of citizens over personal interests.

He encouraged the state executives to embrace citizen-centred governance and strike a balance between addressing challenges and seizing opportunities for national development.

“Leadership presents both challenge and opportunity,” he said.

While expressing confidence in the performance of APC governors, Buhari thanked them for the visit and appreciated the renovation of his residence carried out by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on behalf of the governors, the Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, lauded Buhari for his contributions to the growth of democracy in Nigeria and the APC.

“Many of us recall with pride the principled role you played in the founding of APC. That legacy continues to shape our party’s identity and direction,” Uzodimma said.

He also described Buhari as the only opposition candidate in Nigeria’s history to have defeated an incumbent president, adding that the party was confident in Tinubu’s leadership as reform-driven and forward-looking.
