I Once Washed Gutters For N30 To Survive – Osimhen Reveals Humble Beginnings

Super Eagles forward and Napoli star, Victor Osimhen, has shared a moving story about his difficult childhood, revealing that he once washed gutters for as little as N30 to survive.

Osimhen made the disclosure in a recent interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, recounting the extreme hardships he faced before rising to global football stardom.

“There was a building in front of my house—one of those face-me-I-face-you structures,” he said. “I used to fetch water for people living there for N80, and most of the time, I would wash their gutters when the green things (algae) were coming out. I did it for N30 just to survive.”

Osimhen, who currently plays as a striker for Serie A club Napoli and is one of Africa’s most valuable players, said his story is a reminder of how far determination and faith can take anyone, regardless of their background.

The Lagos-born footballer has often spoken about his humble roots, growing up in the densely populated Olusosun area of Lagos. As a child, he sold sachet water and engaged in menial jobs to support his family following the death of his mother.

His recent comments have sparked a wave of admiration and emotional reactions on social media, with many Nigerians drawing inspiration from his journey.

Instagram user @my_helper_where_you_dey wrote: “God remembered Osimhen and made him great. Please God, help me too before this year ends.”

Another user, @barpasiano, commented: “This one, you can never question the source of his wealth—evidence choke!”

For many fans, Osimhen’s testimony serves as a motivational story that underscores the importance of perseverance, resilience, and self-belief.

From washing gutters to becoming Africa’s Footballer of the Year and playing on the world’s biggest stages, Osimhen’s journey is one of Nigeria’s most compelling success stories.
