Veteran Nollywood actress, Olanrewaju Hassan Adeshina, popularly known as Mama Awero, has declared that acting is not just her career but her life, adding that she cannot envision doing anything else.
The 75-year-old thespian, whose career began in 1964 with the Ojo Ladipo Theatre Group, made the revelation in a recent interview .
“I will die acting. I have been doing this since 1964 and I don’t know how to do anything else aside from acting,” Mama Awero said.
She also disclosed that she has expertise in film costuming, a skill she acquired early in her career from her mentors.
Mama Awero, a household name in the Nigerian film industry, also shed light on the illustrious members of the Awada Keri Keri Theatre Group, many of whom went on to become Nollywood stars.
“People often know me, Oga Bello, and Papi Luwe, but other members included Sola Sobowale, Prince Jide Kosoko, Yomi Fash Lanso, Ronke Odusanya, Kunle Afod, Bakky Adeoye, the late Funmi Martins, and Dele Odule. These actors began their careers with Awada Keri Keri,” she recalled.
Over six decades in the entertainment industry, Mama Awero has remained a prominent figure, inspiring younger generations of actors and reminding Nigerians of the rich heritage of Yoruba theatre and Nollywood.
