Prominent Nigerians, including a former Military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, and Senator Aminu Tambuwal, have been listed among 9,532 land defaulters in Abuja, according to Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Olayinka disclosed this via a Facebook post, where he revealed details of outstanding debts owed by the defaulters.
He noted that Babangida, popularly known as IBB, owes N152 million for a plot of land in the upscale Asokoro district of Abuja.
Similarly, former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, is said to owe N950,000 for a plot in Bazango, while Senator Tambuwal, representing Sokoto South, reportedly owes N18 million for a plot in Carraway Dallas.
In the Facebook post, Olayinka wrote, “9,532 people owing on lands allocated to them in Abuja.
Among those listed as defaulters is former Head of State, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), who owes N152 million for a plot of land in Asokoro.
Other notable defaulters include Samuel Ortom, former governor of Benue, who owes N950,000 for a plot of land in Bazango, and Aminu Tambuwal, senator representing Sokoto South, who owes N18 million for a plot of land in Carraway Dallas. If you are among the 9,532 people, go and pay ooo.”
The FCT Administration, led by Wike, had recently published a list of the defaulters, giving them a two-week ultimatum to clear their debts or risk further action.
Wike’s tenure as FCT minister has seen aggressive reforms, including the revocation of land titles and the demolition of properties deemed illegal.
The minister has emphasized restoring Abuja’s master plan and reclaiming government lands.
