Former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retd.), is set to unveil his much-anticipated autobiography, A Journey in Service, on February 20.
The event, which will double as a fundraiser for the IBB Presidential Library, is scheduled to hold at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
The forthcoming launch marks a significant departure from Babangida’s earlier stance.
Seven years ago, he expressed doubts about penning his memoirs, questioning whether Nigerians would be interested in reading about his controversial leadership.
He cited the public’s perception of his role in the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election and other contentious policies during his tenure from 1985 to 1993.
In a statement inviting dignitaries, the Board of Trustees of the IBB Presidential Library Foundation revealed that the event would be chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, with President Bola Tinubu attending as the special guest of honour.
Former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo will deliver the keynote address, while former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will review the autobiography.
The event is expected to draw an array of prominent figures, including former presidents Muhammadu Buhari, Yakubu Gowon, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and Goodluck Jonathan.
Other notable guests include Theophilus Danjuma, a former Minister of Defence, and Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group, who have been named as chief launchers.
The launch of A Journey in Service and the accompanying presidential library aims to reflect Babangida’s legacy and contributions to Nigeria’s political and historical landscape.
