In a significant development, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has taken into custody five senior officials from the Department of Farm Inputs Supports Services (FISS) within the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
This action follows allegations of misappropriation of funds allocated for monitoring exercises and sensitization programs.
According to reliable sources, the arrests unfolded at the Bank of Agriculture Building, situated within the Central Business District of Garki, Abuja, on the 10th of August, 2023.
The ICPC detained four of the apprehended officials for a short duration before subsequently releasing them.
However, the director among them was granted release due to health reasons.
Inside information revealed that a substantial sum of over N200 million was detected in the bank account of one of the detained officials.
Moreover, an impressive N100 million was discovered within the bank account belonging to one of the official’s children.
Shocking revelations continued as investigators uncovered a staggering N250 million cash concealed within the residence of one of the arrested officials, located in Abuja.
Adding to the complex web of illicit financial activities, ICPC’s thorough examination revealed an influx of over N60 million into the bank account of one of the suspects over a span of six months.
In a strategic move, the ICPC also took control of several landed properties, including a bakery and an herbal hospital.
Responding to inquiries, Azuka Ogugua, the spokesperson for the ICPC, confirmed the arrests, stating that the investigation remains ongoing.
Ogugua asserted that once the case proceeds to court, it will become a matter of public knowledge, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to avoiding a premature media trial.
