The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Hauwau Gimbiya Mukhtar Abdulkarim, the Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical) (FCET), Gusau, Zamfara State, along with Abdullahi Boyi, a lecturer at the Sokoto State College of Education (SSCE), for alleged forgery.
The two were brought before the Sokoto State High Court, presided over by Justice Muhammad Aliyu Sambo, on a six-count charge of forgery and false statements, under case number SS/213c/2024.
ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare confirmed the charges against the defendants, which include allegations of using forged documents to secure Abdulkarim’s position as Provost at FCET Gusau.
According to ICPC, Abdulkarim and Boyi allegedly forged a letter of “Notification for Appointment” for a Chief Lecturer role, backdated to January 1, 2017, as part of their application for the provost position.
The charge further includes accusations of providing false information to ICPC officers during the investigation, which contravenes Section 25(1)(a) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.
The first count of the charge sheet reads, “That you Hauwa’u Gimbiya Mukhtar Abdulkarim (F) and Abdullahi Boyi (M), sometime in the year 2023 or thereabout, at Sokoto, within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired to do an illegal act to wit: forgery of a letter of ‘Notification for Appointment’ to the Post of Chief Lecturer on COMPCASS 14 with effect from 1st January 2017, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 59(1) and punishable under Section 60(2) of the Sokoto State Penal Code Law, 2019.”
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all charges, maintaining their innocence before the court.
The case is set to continue with further hearings expected, as the ICPC aims to substantiate the allegations against the academic officials.
