The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has commenced a nationwide verification and tracking exercise of constituency and zonal intervention projects to ensure compliance with approved standards.
The exercise, flagged off on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in Kano for the Northwest zone, is part of the federal government’s efforts to promote transparency, prevent project abandonment, and ensure value for money in public expenditure.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, represented by the Director of the Special Projects Unit, Olatunde Ajayi, issued a stern warning to contractors.
“The Ministry has zero tolerance for substandard work or abandoned projects. Where deficiencies are identified, contractors will be summoned for corrective action, and in cases of clear contractual failure, refunds to government coffers will be demanded,” Ajayi stated.
The joint inspection team visited several projects, including a sports facility with a mini-stadium and an indoor sports centre in Gwarzo, as well as solar power interventions at Government Secondary School, Kwa, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.
Ajayi commended the quality of materials and workmanship at the sites, describing them as satisfactory.
While the ICPC team noted “minor technical lapses,” it praised the overall standard of the constructions and urged contractors to swiftly address the issues to ensure timely completion.
Bello Idris Bakori, Head of Constituency Projects Tracking at ICPC, said the commission’s involvement is proactive, aimed at curbing corruption and deterring malpractice in public projects.
He assured that all findings would be documented and followed up in line with the law to protect the public interest.
The verification exercise is being conducted simultaneously across all states hosting federal constituency projects, with the outcome expected to inform future planning and government interventions.
