The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says it recovered a total of ₦37.44 billion and $2.35 million in 2025 through asset seizures and forfeitures, describing the figure as one of the highest annual recoveries in the history of the commission.
The ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, disclosed this in Abuja during the commission’s End-of-Year Engagement, which also featured a send-off ceremony for retiring staff and the presentation of annual merit awards.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the commission’s spokesperson, Mr Okor Odey, Aliyu said the recoveries reflected what he described as a “pivotal year” for the anti-graft agency, marked by notable progress in enforcement, prevention and public enlightenment.
According to the chairman, the commission investigated 263 cases within the year, surpassing its target of 250, and filed 61 cases before the courts.
He added that ICPC recorded a conviction rate of 55.74 per cent during the period under review.
Among the landmark convictions secured by the commission was that of Prof. Cyril Ndifon of the University of Calabar, who was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment over offences bordering on sexual harassment and cyberbullying.
Aliyu said the judgment underscored the commission’s resolve to confront corruption and abuse of office in all its forms, regardless of the status of those involved.
Beyond prosecutions, the ICPC boss highlighted extensive preventive interventions carried out across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
He said 344 MDAs were assessed using the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard, while the commission conducted 66 corruption-monitoring exercises and tracked 1,490 public projects nationwide.
He added that Systems Study and Corruption Risk Assessments were completed in 12 MDAs as part of efforts to reduce institutional vulnerabilities to corruption.
On public engagement, Aliyu said the commission reached over 235,000 Nigerians through 644 sensitisation activities, generated about 3.5 million digital engagements, established 86 Anti-Corruption Clubs and Vanguards, and trained 2,707 participants at the ICPC Academy.
The chairman further disclosed that the commission strengthened collaboration with key stakeholders during the year, initiating 15 joint activities, while civil society organisations carried out 57 complementary anti-corruption engagements across the country.
Aliyu reaffirmed the ICPC’s commitment to intensifying asset recovery, strengthening institutional integrity and deepening public trust in the anti-corruption fight.
