Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has declared his readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government to flush out bandits and other criminal elements from forests in the South-West.
Igboho, who has been vocal in his opposition to banditry and violent crimes in parts of the region, said he and his supporters were prepared to confront terrorists operating in rural communities
if granted official approval and backing by the Federal Government.
Speaking during an interview, the activist stressed that any operation to rid the forests of criminal gangs must have the endorsement and support of the Federal Government.
“I need the support of the Federal Government to strengthen security in the South-West. I’m ready to enter the forests in Yorubaland with my boys to flush out terrorists who have been attacking our people in rural communities,” he said.
He added that without federal approval, his group would be unable to act.
“We can’t do anything if the Federal Government does not give us approval or support. With my freedom and pardon,
I am ready to collaborate with the Federal Government to rid our forests of criminal elements and rogue herders who have become threats to the peace and tranquillity of some of our communities,” Igboho stated.
The activist maintained that he possesses the manpower and local intelligence required to support security efforts, particularly in rural settlements that have recorded repeated attacks.
“If the Federal Government under the leadership of President Tinubu gives us the go-ahead and support, I am absolutely ready to work in ensuring the effective security of our rural communities in the South-West.
We have the capacity and manpower to carry out the task if we get approval and support from the government,” he said.
Igboho had previously led campaigns against suspected bandits in parts of Oyo State, actions that drew national attention and sparked debates over the role of non-state actors in security operations.
His latest call comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of the country, with residents of several rural communities in the South-West raising alarms over attacks, kidnappings and killings linked to armed groups operating from forest reserves.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the Federal Government regarding Igboho’s request for collaboration.
