The  Inspector General of Police, Kayode  Egbetokun has in certain terms, declared that an assault on any police officer, whether on or off-duty, constitutes a direct attack on the entire law enforcement community and the very fabric of society’s peace and security.

The IGP stated this when he  personally visited the National Hospital in Abuja on Thursday,  to assess the condition of Police Inspector Omeje Matthew, who was viciously attacked by armed hoodlums in Kabusa, Abuja.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP, Olumiyiwa Adejobi  stated this in a statement issued on Thursday.

Adejobi said the IGP  with a stern countenance, made it abundantly clear that such attacks will be met with the full might of the law.

The Force PRO, added that  the IGP has instructed the FCT Commissioner of Police to conduct a meticulous investigation into the  heinous incident to ensure the swift apprehension and prosecution of the perpetrators.

According to Adejobi, the IGP  has called upon all Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders to ensure the thorough resolution of all pending investigations related to attacks on police officers within their respective jurisdictions.

In a compassionate gesture, the Inspector General of Police extended his heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured Police Inspector and others in similar circumstances.

He assured them and their families of the unwavering support and assistance of the Nigeria Police Force during their recovery.

Furthermore, the IGP urged the public to join hands with the Police by providing any information that could aid in the swift resolution of this case, emphasizing that collective efforts are essential in maintaining law and order within society.

The statement read ” the IGP has directed the FCT Commissioner of Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.

“The IGP also seizes the opportunity to charge other Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders to ensure proper closure of all pending investigations into attacks on police officers and men within their respective jurisdictions.

“The Inspector General of Police while extending his heartfelt wishes for the speedy recovery of the assaulted Police Inspector and others who are in the same situation, and assuring them and their families of the full support and assistance of the Nigeria Police Force, calls on the public to cooperate with the Police in providing information that can aid in the swift resolution of this case.”
