The Oluwo Ijeja Traditional Council of Chiefs in Egbaland, Ogun State, Chief Mukaila Atanda Akinwande has declared the dismissal of four chiefs for taking the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo and the council to court .
Speaking at a press conference held on Sunday, in Abeokuta, the Secretary of the council, Chief Sodipo Olawale Mathew said the decision was made during a meeting at the council and later ratified by the entire house.
He said the dismissed chiefs include Oluremi Babalola, former Baala of Ijeja; Mr. Adisa Oliyide, former Onlado Ijeja; Mr. Oyedele Aremu Bamgboye, former Olori Aje Ijeja; and Mrs. Oliyide, former Asiwaju Aje Ijeja.
He explained that they had initially faced an indefinite suspension after the court ruled on the case, but the council decided to terminate their positions following a subsequent meeting.
Chief Mathew explained, “The executive held a meeting, took the decision, and later took it to the whole house where it was ratified.
“ After the court judgment, we took the Oluwo to the Alake for a visit and a thank-you tour, during which we were advised to take appropriate action against those who took us to court.”
The traditional council accused the dismissed chiefs of disregarding the council’s decisions, going to a village and installing a Baale without permission, and installing another Baale without council approval.
The council added that it extended invitations to the chiefs to explain their actions, but they failed to respond.
“We are informing them not to present themselves as council chiefs, and the general public should not engage with them on behalf of the council. Whoever takes any action does so independently,” warned Chief Akinwande during the press conference.
The decision to remove the chiefs was collectively made by the Oluwo Ijeja Traditional Council of Chiefs, emphasizing the support of the Ogbonis, Ologun, Oloroguns, and parakoyi in ceasing their roles within the Ijeja traditional council.
