The Niger State Commissioner of Mineral Resources, Hon. Muhammed Qasim Danjuma, has called for the immediate revival of the state’s illegal mining task force to strengthen enforcement against offenders.
Danjuma made the appeal on Wednesday during a visit to the Niger State Police Headquarters in Minna, where he met with the State
Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman. He said reviving the task force would help curb criminal activities linked to illegal mining and promote peace in the state.
“Some miscreants are hiding under the guise of mining to perpetrate crime and cause chaos in our communities,” Danjuma said.
He stressed that the state government is determined to halt illegal mining, which he described as a source of crime and other social vices.
The commissioner noted that his visit had multiple objectives: to commend the police for their efforts in maintaining law and order, introduce the new management of the ministry, and foster stronger collaboration in tackling illegal mining.
Responding, CP Elleman thanked the ministry for acknowledging the police’s efforts and assured Danjuma of enhanced cooperation.
He also urged the ministry to provide credible intelligence on illegal mining operations to allow prompt police intervention and prevent further damage to property.
Danjuma’s call comes amid growing concerns over illegal mining operations in Niger State, which have been linked to environmental degradation, criminal activities, and social unrest.
