Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has extended his condolences to the family of the late Mr Awofeso Ajibade, who, before his death, was the State correspondent of Galaxy Television attached to Government House.

The governor, in his speech, expressed shock at the sudden death of the journalist, which occurred over the weekend at his Lagos residence.

Uzodinma stated that the unexpected passing of the Galaxy correspondent is not only hurting but devastating.

“The late Ajibade did not just die in his prime at 40, but left behind an equally young family of four, in addition to his wife, aged mother, and other dependents.

“He was a hardworking, committed, dutiful, and God-fearing journalist who plied his trade responsibly, ensuring that he did not compromise on the ethics of the media profession to which he belonged.

“My sincere condolences go to the young family, particularly Ajibade’s distraught wife and aged mother, during this challenging time in their lives. On behalf of my family, the government, and the good people of Imo State, I commiserate with the Awofeso and Nwaiwu families, the media community, particularly the Imo State Correspondent Chapel and the Nigerian Union of Journalists, and all friends and associates of Ajibade, over this huge loss. It is my prayer that God Almighty grants his soul eternal rest. Amen,” the governor stated.

The death of the journalist came as a shock to journalists in the State, who described his demise as devastating due to its unexpected nature.

In his reaction, the Imo State Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma, in a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Henry Okoye, expressed shock over the death of the journalist, whom he described as a dedicated media practitioner who attached passion to his work. The sudden exit of Mr. Awofeso has left the command in shock and sorrow.

“Mr Awofeso was a distinguished journalist whose dedication greatly impacted the media community. His work was marked by integrity and a relentless pursuit of truth, which earned him respect and admiration from the people he worked with,” the release stated.

The police commissioner further used the moment to commiserate with the family Ajibade left behind and prayed for God to give them the strength to bear his loss.
