The Imo State Police Command has declared Mr. Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, owner of a mortuary and hotel in Umuhu Autonomous Community, Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area, wanted following allegations of organ harvesting at his facility.
Police said a recent operation at the mortuary uncovered disjointed and unhygienically kept corpses, raising suspicions of illicit organ trade.
According to the police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the discovery suggested that the bodies had been tampered with in a manner consistent with organ harvesting.
“The operation was led personally by the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, following credible intelligence on the mortuary’s activities,” Okoye said.
He added that a local vigilante group assisted the police in the raid, which aligns with ongoing measures to combat kidnapping and violent crimes along the Owerri–Aba Expressway.
Following the raid, the state government sealed both the mortuary and the hotel, while the suspect’s residence was also searched, yielding several crucial exhibits for the ongoing investigation.
A forensic report by the Pathology Department of the State Specialist Hospital has been documented and will aid in prosecution.
Okoye urged members of the public with information on Oparaugo’s whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or call 0803 477 3600, warning that maximum security measures have been deployed along the Owerri–Aba Expressway to ensure public safety during the festive season.
